Two people considering the same set of information can arrive at different explanations. For example, the shape of an O could be reasonably explained as a circle, a tube, a sphere, a vowel, or a number. In my “Explanations” I have attempted to explain various shapes. An edge may appear to be formed by a fold, by a curve, or simply be the border. In some instances, I have taken the same shape and explained it in two different ways, both of which are equally valid (or invalid). Whereas an edge may appear to recede in one painting, the same edge may appear to advance in a painting of a matching shape. In each case the shape is logically explained. Since the true explanation of my “Explanations” exposes some unmarketable realities according to the gallery that previously represented me, it has been omitted. The true explanation is neither cultural narrative nor a matter of interpretation. Nonetheless, I will leave explanation of “Explanations” to the observer.
